According to the Map the Meal Gap by Feeding America, Roanoke City had a childhood food insecurity rate of 25.2% in 2023*. This equates to 5,630 children in Roanoke City alone. There are a lot of things that can cause food insecurity including rising household costs, access to healthcare, access to food itself - and so much more. Congregations in Action (CIA) partners with local faith communities to help bridge this gap through the Pack-a-Snack program. In the 2024-2025 school year 133 bags were packed and sent home each week.
