Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

This Ash Wednesday, we encourage you to include dinner in your observation. A prayer time and a silent candlelight vigil to the sanctuary will be part of our service. We hope you will plan to begin your Lenten journey by participating and attending the dinner and service. Watch for the menu to be sent out in next week's newsletter.
Also, for a new Lenten practice, you will see an image in each week's newsletter with reflection questions. This practice is called Visio Divina, one in which you look and reflect on an image asking the Spirit to speak to you through it.  The image will also be posted to social media and we hope you will post answers to the questions there so we might enjoy those reflections as a community of faith.

Rescue Mission of Roanoke Needs Your Help

Dear Church Partners,
We are reaching out with an urgent request and an opportunity for your church family to live out Christ’s love in a powerful, tangible way.

As winter continues and demand for shelter remains high, the Rescue Mission of Roanoke is experiencing critical staffing needs in our emergency shelters. These roles are essential to providing safety, stability, and compassionate care for men, women, and children seeking refuge during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Immediate openings include:

  • Women & Children’s Emergency Shelter Supervisor (Full-Time & Part-Time)
  • Men's Shelter Supervisor (Full-Time & Part-Time)
  • Family Chaplain (Children & Adult)
  • Digital Media Specialist

These positions are more than jobs — they are callings. Each team member serves on the front lines of ministry, building relationships, offering encouragement, and extending the hope of Jesus through daily presence, consistency, and care.

We would be deeply grateful if you would share these opportunities with your congregation through announcements, bulletins, newsletters, or personal conversations. Someone in your church may be prayerfully seeking meaningful, Christ-centered work — and this could be the answer. Full position descriptions and application details can be found on our website.

Thank you for standing with us as we serve our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and the love of Christ. Your partnership makes this ministry and this life-changing work possible.

With gratitude,
Joyce Bell, Director of Human Resources
